Talbot effect for the Manakov System on the torus
In this paper, the Talbot effect for the multi-component linear and nonlinear
systems of the dispersive evolution equations on a bounded interval subject to
periodic boundary conditions and discontinuous initial profiles is
investigated. Firstly, for a class of two-component linear systems satisfying
the dispersive quantization conditions, we discuss the fractal solutions at
irrational times. Next, the investigation to nonlinear regime is extended, we
prove that, for the concrete example of the Manakov system, the solutions of
the corresponding periodic initial-boundary value problem subject to initial
data of bounded variation are continuous but nowhere differentiable
fractal-like curve with Minkowski dimension at irrational times. Finally,
numerical experiments for the periodic initial-boundary value problem of the
Manakov system, are used to justify how such effects persist into the
multi-component nonlinear regime. Furthermore, it is shown in the nonlinear
multi-component regime that the interplay of different components may induce
subtle different qualitative profile between the jump discontinuities,
especially in the case that two nonlinearly coupled components start with
different initial profile
Dual Energy Spectral CT Imaging for Colorectal Cancer Grading: A Preliminary Study
ObjectivesTo assess the diagnostic value of dual energy spectral CT imaging for colorectal cancer grading using the quantitative iodine density measurements in both arterial phase (AP) and venous phase (VP).Methods81 colorectal cancer patients were divided into two groups based on their pathological findings: a low grade group including well (n = 13) and moderately differentiated cancer (n = 24), and a high grade group including poorly differentiated (n = 42) and signet ring cell cancer (n = 2). Iodine density (ID) in the lesions was derived from the iodine-based material decomposition (MD) image and normalized to that in the psoas muscle to obtain normalized iodine density (NID). The difference in ID and NID between AP and VP was calculated.ResultsThe ID and NID values of the low grade cancer group were, 14.65±3.38mg/mL and 1.70±0.33 in AP, and 21.90±3.11mg/mL and 2.05± 0.32 in VP, respectively. The ID and NID values for the high grade cancer group were 20.63±3.72mg/mL and 2.95±0.72 in AP, and 26.27±3.10mg/mL and 3.51±1.12 in VP, respectively. There was significant difference for ID and NID between the low grade and high grade cancer groups in both AP and VP (all p<0.001). ROC analysis indicated that NID of 1.92 in AP provided 70.3% sensitivity and 97.7% specificity in differentiating low grade cancer from high grade cancer.ConclusionsThe quantitative measurement of iodine density in AP and VP can provide useful information to differentiate low grade colorectal cancer from high grade colorectal cancer with NID in AP providing the greatest diagnostic value
Baichuan 2: Open Large-scale Language Models
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance on a
variety of natural language tasks based on just a few examples of natural
language instructions, reducing the need for extensive feature engineering.
However, most powerful LLMs are closed-source or limited in their capability
for languages other than English. In this technical report, we present Baichuan
2, a series of large-scale multilingual language models containing 7 billion
and 13 billion parameters, trained from scratch, on 2.6 trillion tokens.
Baichuan 2 matches or outperforms other open-source models of similar size on
public benchmarks like MMLU, CMMLU, GSM8K, and HumanEval. Furthermore, Baichuan
2 excels in vertical domains such as medicine and law. We will release all
pre-training model checkpoints to benefit the research community in better
understanding the training dynamics of Baichuan 2.Comment: Baichuan 2 technical report. Github:

Conditional Deletion of PDK1 in the Forebrain Causes Neuron Loss and Increased Apoptosis during Cortical Development
Decreased expression but increased activity of PDK1 has been observed in neurodegenerative disease. To study in vivo function of PDK1 in neuron survival during cortical development, we generate forebrain-specific PDK1 conditional knockout (cKO) mice. We demonstrate that PDK1 cKO mice display striking neuron loss and increased apoptosis. We report that PDK1 cKO mice exhibit deficits on several behavioral tasks. Moreover, PDK1 cKO mice show decreased activities for Akt and mTOR. These results highlight an essential role of endogenous PDK1 in the maintenance of neuronal survival during cortical development
Potential of Core-Collapse Supernova Neutrino Detection at JUNO
JUNO is an underground neutrino observatory under construction in Jiangmen, China. It uses 20kton liquid scintillator as target, which enables it to detect supernova burst neutrinos of a large statistics for the next galactic core-collapse supernova (CCSN) and also pre-supernova neutrinos from the nearby CCSN progenitors. All flavors of supernova burst neutrinos can be detected by JUNO via several interaction channels, including inverse beta decay, elastic scattering on electron and proton, interactions on C12 nuclei, etc. This retains the possibility for JUNO to reconstruct the energy spectra of supernova burst neutrinos of all flavors. The real time monitoring systems based on FPGA and DAQ are under development in JUNO, which allow prompt alert and trigger-less data acquisition of CCSN events. The alert performances of both monitoring systems have been thoroughly studied using simulations. Moreover, once a CCSN is tagged, the system can give fast characterizations, such as directionality and light curve
Detection of the Diffuse Supernova Neutrino Background with JUNO
As an underground multi-purpose neutrino detector with 20 kton liquid scintillator, Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is competitive with and complementary to the water-Cherenkov detectors on the search for the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB). Typical supernova models predict 2-4 events per year within the optimal observation window in the JUNO detector. The dominant background is from the neutral-current (NC) interaction of atmospheric neutrinos with 12C nuclei, which surpasses the DSNB by more than one order of magnitude. We evaluated the systematic uncertainty of NC background from the spread of a variety of data-driven models and further developed a method to determine NC background within 15\% with {\it{in}} {\it{situ}} measurements after ten years of running. Besides, the NC-like backgrounds can be effectively suppressed by the intrinsic pulse-shape discrimination (PSD) capabilities of liquid scintillators. In this talk, I will present in detail the improvements on NC background uncertainty evaluation, PSD discriminator development, and finally, the potential of DSNB sensitivity in JUNO
Real-time Monitoring for the Next Core-Collapse Supernova in JUNO
Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is one of the most energetic astrophysical
events in the Universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before
(pre-SN) and during the SN burst is a unique opportunity to realize the
multi-messenger observation of the CCSN events. In this work, we describe the
monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to the pre-SN and
SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), which is
a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector under construction in South China. The
real-time monitoring system is designed with both the prompt monitors on the
electronic board and online monitors at the data acquisition stage, in order to
ensure both the alert speed and alert coverage of progenitor stars. By assuming
a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system can be sensitive to
the pre-SN neutrinos up to the distance of about 1.6 (0.9) kpc and SN neutrinos
up to about 370 (360) kpc for a progenitor mass of 30 for the case
of normal (inverted) mass ordering. The pointing ability of the CCSN is
evaluated by using the accumulated event anisotropy of the inverse beta decay
interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos, which, along with the early alert,
can play important roles for the followup multi-messenger observations of the
next Galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.Comment: 24 pages, 9 figure
Targeted gene sanger sequencing should remain the first-tier genetic test for children suspected to have the five common X-linked inborn errors of immunity
DATA AVAILABILITY STATEMENT : The original contributions presented in the study are included in the article/Supplementary Material. Further inquiries can be directed to the corresponding author. To address inborn errors of immunity (IEI) which were underdiagnosed in resource-limited
regions, our centre developed and offered free genetic testing for the most common IEI by
Sanger sequencing (SS) since 2001. With the establishment of The Asian Primary
Immunodeficiency (APID) Network in 2009, the awareness and definitive diagnosis of
IEI were further improved with collaboration among centres caring for IEI patients from
East and Southeast Asia. We also started to use whole exome sequencing (WES) for
undiagnosed cases and further extended our collaboration with centres from South Asia
and Africa. With the increased use of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), we have shifted
our diagnostic practice from SS to WES. However, SS was still one of the key diagnostic
tools for IEI for the past two decades. Our centre has performed 2,024 IEI SS genetic
tests, with in-house protocol designed specifically for 84 genes, in 1,376 patients with 744
identified to have disease-causing mutations (54.1%). The high diagnostic rate after just
one round of targeted gene SS for each of the 5 common IEI (X-linked
agammaglobulinemia (XLA) 77.4%, Wiskott–Aldrich syndrome (WAS) 69.2%, X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (XCGD) 59.5%, X-linked severe combined
immunodeficiency (XSCID) 51.1%, and X-linked hyper-IgM syndrome (HIGM1) 58.1%)
demonstrated targeted gene SS should remain the first-tier genetic test for the 5 common

Design of Mixed-Model Assembly Lines Integrating New Energy Vehicles
The automotive industry is undergoing a transformational period where more and more new energy vehicles (NEVs) are being produced and delivered to the market. Accordingly, some new challenges arise during the manufacturing process for car companies. Since the mixed-model assembly line has been widely used, how to integrate the NEVs into the existing assembly system that was designed for the production of gasoline cars is a key issue. A practical approach assigning a specific workforce to handle NEV assembly work is applied at the BMW assembly shop. This work studies this new production pattern and focuses on the design of the assembly system under this pattern. This work aims to develop a method for minimizing the production cost of NEV assembly. Thus, an exact algorithm for hierarchically solving the assembly line balancing problem and vehicle model sequencing problem is proposed. Mixed integer programming mathematical models that describe these two problems are formulated for the first time. Three new benchmark problems and one industry case that include the NEV models are created to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results of numerical tests demonstrate that the developed algorithm can quickly generate reconfiguration solutions of the assembly line for various model mix scenarios and production rates. High flexibility of the manufacturing system can be obtained using the proposed approach
